Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami is one of the most skilled pacers in the TATA IPL. He is injured and ruled out of IPL 2024 which is a big setback to his franchise Gujarat Titans.

Armed with speed, accuracy and mastery of seam movement, the Bengal speedster has been a strike bowler for whichever franchise he has represented. Shami first tasted IPL success with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2013. He then had stints with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, before being snapped up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 6.25 crore in the 2022 auction.

He made his IPL debut in 2013 but took 21 wickets total in his first 5 years. For the next 5 years, he took 21 wickets per season on an average.

Shami has taken 127 wickets in 110 IPL matches at an average of 26.87 and economy of 8.44. His best season came in 2023 when he won the Purple Cap picking up 28 scalps at 18.64, consistently providing breakthroughs with the new ball for GT. He is currently the 14th highest wicket-taker in IPL history.

The 33-year-old's IPL success has made him a mainstay of the Indian team. Circa March 2024, In 64 Tests, Shami has 229 wickets, including a sensational debut series against West Indies in 2013. In ODIs, he’s one of India’s GOATs. Since his debut in January 2013, no ODI bowler among test-playing nations - not even Starc, Bumrah, Steyn, and Shaheen - has a better strike rate than Shami.
