In America, horse racing brings in $17 billion a year, second only to football. Top jockeys earn millions, competing in one of the world’s most dangerous sports. Balanced on their toes, jockeys ride 1,200-pound animals at over 40 mph. Racetracks set jockeys’ minimum weight limits starting at 112 pounds; they can weigh more but risk being fired by horse owners and trainers. To make weight, jockeys will do almost anything.
