IMD Marks 150 Years With Push For Accurate Forecast, Weather Station Expansion | N18G | News18

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) will expand its network of Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) across the country to achieve 100% detection of all severe weather events at all village and block levels. In its 150th year, the department has outlined its Vision 2047 with a goal to improve its skills such that there is almost zero per cent error in the forecast up to three days.With some older weather stations/observatories still relying on outdated equipment, which cause errors or inconsistencies in data collection, the department has begun the transition to more advanced technologies — AWS and satellite-based observations across all stations.Show more
