Panama rejected Trump's claims, stating sovereignty over the canal is non-negotiable. Former presidents Moscos, Balladares, and Torrijos supported Panama's sovereignty. The US handed over control of the Panama Canal to Panama under the Torrijos-Carter Treaty.
