"It’s 1964 - the swinging sixties are happening - but not for Barbara Parker. Not Yet. She’s just been crowned Miss Blackpool Belle - but this has never been her dream. So, she makes a break for it and heads to London -- leaving behind beloved dad George, a fiancée and a job at the Rock factory. Hoping to land a job in the West End - she ends up selling hats in a department store. Not quite the big time. On the upside she makes a friend - 'Marjorie from Shoes’ who offers her a place to stay. In fact, Barbara isn’t short of offers -- not always welcome ones -- as she follows her haphazard plan to work in showbusiness, like her idol Lucille Ball. When she meets theatrical agent, Brian Debenham, Barbara Parker becomes 'Sophie Straw’ (he claims it’s more sophisticated) then defies his attempts to market her as a blonde bombshell in a bikini.Show more
