While on his way to Lanka, Ravana feels an excessive thirst to drink water. He entrusts the 'Atmalinga' to a small boy, who is none other than Ganesha in disguise. Despite drinking a lot of water Ravana is unable to quench his thirst. Unable to hold the 'Atmalinga' any longer, Ganesha drops it on the ground where it becomes unmovable. Ravana fails to lift it back up, and Ganesha establishes a shrine at the spot by naming it as - Gokarna, Mahabaleshwar.Show more
