Grace (Debra Messing) wants to prove that she's not completely dependent upon Will (Eric McCormack) by moving to the apartment across the hall. As a bold display of her newly found independence, she decides to throw a dinner party without the help of Will - much to the chagrin of her guests. In his own act of liberation, Will decides to ask a guy out that he met in a bookstore.
